This blog post will be short and to the point…
So you think you want to wear a veil. But you also think you might want to wear a bridal headpiece. You might be asking yourself “can I wear a headpiece even though I’m wearing a veil?”
This is actually a surprisingly common question and the simple answer is … yes! You can wear both a wedding headpiece and veil at the same time. While we could write a long blog post arguing the point, we think it's best to just show you some images. After all, a picture speaks a thousand words.
Let’s look at some examples:
We’re big fans of Downton and imagine many of you are too! Perhaps you didn’t realise but some of Downton’s best known weddings featured brides that wore headpieces with bridal headwear. First, we have Lady Mary:
The look worked so well for Mary that Edith had the same style at her wedding…
Not once, but twice! (Though Lord Grantham doesn't look too impressed... cheer up buddy!)
But what about some real-life examples?
Prince William and Princess Catherine of the United Kingdom... there's a good chance Meghan Markle will follow the same style when she marries Prince Harry later this year
Prince Haakon and Princess Mette-Marit of Norway
Prince Frederik (we love photos of groom's crying when they see the bride!!!) and Princess Mary of Denmark (we love you Aussie Mary!)
Other Famous Weddings
Elvis and Priscilla Presley
A Real Bride
And - saving the best until last – one of our very own brides. And how cute is the flower girl with her matching headpiece!
You might be wondering under what circumstances you can’t wear a veil with bridal headwear. The answer is simple: veils usually can't be worn with headpieces that have delicate features which may be bent/damaged by the weight of a veil. For example, a hairpiece with sprays and/or baby's breath. Note we said usually - there really isn't anything stopping you from wearing any of our headpieces with your veil.
And remember, we can figure out a way to make your veil and headpiece work together.
Wearing a veil with a headpiece is more common than you think and there is no reason that you can't do this on your wedding day. It's just a matter of figuring out what headwear design will complement the veil and vice versa, and then figuring out how to attach everything together.
And this, of course, is our speciality. We can make anything you want and advise you on what will work on your wedding day and with your dress. Contact us to discuss your bespoke bridal hairpiece and matching veil.
